Embedded Senior Software Engineer

Job Description

Seeking a Senior Software Engineer with 5 to 10 years of embedded firmware RTOS experience to develop and maintain communication protocols, sensor interfaces, and system integration firmware for regulated medical devices. The ideal candidate will have strong expertise in C programming on ARM Cortex-M platforms, communication protocols (CAN, SPI, I2C, UART, USB/Ethernet, Wireless), hardware debugging, and IEC 62304-compliant development. This role offers hands-on involvement in firmware development, hardware bring-up, field issue resolution, system integration, and collaboration across engineering teams to deliver high-quality and reliable medical device software.

Key Responsibilities :

• Own the firmware architecture for all communication subsystems: Wireless stack,

CAN/SPI/I2C/UART/USB protocol stacks, and dialysate sensor interfaces.

• Design and maintain the hardware abstraction layer (HAL) strategy — ensuring firmware

portability and clean separation between hardware-specific and application-level code.

• Develop and review low-level peripheral drivers, DMA configuration, interrupt handlers, and MCU

initialization sequences.

• Integrate Wireless communication stacks and resolve field-level communication failures through

root cause analysis and firmware fix.

• Collaborate with hardware design teams during schematic review and PCB bring-up — provide

firmware-level validation of hardware interfaces.

• Author interface control documents, protocol implementation specifications, and firmware design

documents per IEC 62304.

• Establish unit test plans and verification approaches for communication subsystems, ensuring

traceability to software requirements.

• Mentor the FW Engineers and Assoc. FW Engineers — provide technical guidance, conduct

code reviews, and support their growth.

• Partner with the Safety Architect to ensure communication firmware integrates cleanly with

safety-critical alarm and control subsystems.

• Support design transfer and manufacturing bring-up — provide firmware support for factory test

jigs and production calibration.

• Experience with static analysis tools (Polyspace, PC-lint, Coverity, Parasoft) and unit testing

frameworks for embedded C

Required Qualifications

• B.E./B.Tech or M.Tech in Electronics, Embedded Systems, Instrumentation, or Computer

Science.

• 8+ years of embedded firmware experience, with at least 4 years in medical devices or safety critical industries.

• Expert-level C on ARM Cortex-M platforms; strong experience with peripheral driver

development and DMA configuration.

•Hands-on experience with multiple communication protocols at the firmware implementation level: SPI, I2C, UART, CAN, USB, and WIRELESS.

•Experience designing and owning hardware abstraction layers for multi-MCU or multi-platform product families.

•Strong hardware debugging skills: oscilloscopes, logic analysers, protocol analysers (CAN, USB, SPI), and JTAG/SWD.

•Knowledge of IEC 62304 software lifecycle, including software architecture documentation and traceability requirements.
