Job Description

Chinese Lead Medical Writer, China (Medical Affairs)

Location: Hybrid

Employment type: Full-time

Languages: Chinese (native or near-native, business level) and English (business level) — both required daily

About the role

HealthMinds supports China Medical Affairs organisation across therapy areas, e.g. oncology, immunology, rare disease. We are hiring a Lead Medical Writer to own the scientific content that reaches Chinese physicians, KOLs and internal field teams.

You will be the person our client's China-based Clinical Research Physicians, Medical Scientists and MSLs talk to about the science — in Chinese — and the person who turns those conversations into accurate, on-strategy content. You will write the pieces that matter most yourself, and build the team that handles the rest.

What you will do

Write and own the science

  • Develop Chinese-language medical affairs content: MSL slide decks, disease-state education materials, congress and symposium materials, standard response documents and CFAQs for HCP enquiries, publication slide sets, and competitive intelligence summaries.
  • Adapt global English source material for Chinese audiences — not literal translation, but scientifically faithful transcreation that reflects Chinese clinical practice, treatment guidelines and terminology conventions.
  • Interpret complex clinical and real-world data and turn it into clear, accurate content calibrated to the audience and channel.
  • Ensure every deliverable is fully referenced, source-verified, and aligned to the client style guide and the JPMA promotion code and applicable China compliance requirements.

Partner with the client

  • Serve as the primary scientific point of contact for China-based CRPs, CRSs and MSLs — leading kick-off discussions in Chinese, clarifying scope, and translating brand and medical strategy into a concrete content plan.
  • Come to kick-offs prepared, document decisions and timelines, and keep project owners informed as scope evolves.
  • Set clear expectations for editors, designers, project management and medical review teams, and resolve their questions quickly.

Lead the team

  • Mentor and onboard junior and mid-level writers; review their work and raise the standard of the output.
  • Prioritise across multiple concurrent projects and flag risk before it becomes a delay.
  • Help shape how the team works as the account grows — tools, templates, process, quality standards.

What you need (must-have)

  • Native or near-native Chinese, plus business-level English — you will read English source material and work with English-speaking colleagues daily.
  • 5+ years writing medical or scientific content, including 3+ years in pharmaceutical medical affairs or medical communications.
  • Degree in life sciences, pharmacy or medicine.
  • Demonstrated experience producing medical affairs deliverables for a Chinese HCP audience.
  • Direct experience working with client-side medical stakeholders (medical affairs physicians, scientists, or MSLs).
  • Working knowledge of China pharmaceutical compliance requirements for medical and promotional content.

What will set you apart (preferred)

  • Peer-reviewed publication authorship — Chinese and/or international journals.
  • Experience mentoring or leading writers.
  • Familiarity with Veeva Vault MedComms, AEM, or comparable content and review platforms (we will train you if not).
  • Comfort with data visualization and figure preparation (GraphPad Prism or similar).
