Job Description

Senior Embedded Software Developer – Welding Automation Products

Department: Research & Development

Location : Chennai

Job Type: Full-Time (Work from Office)

Experience Level: Senior (5 to 7 years)

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain embedded firmware for welding power sources, weld control devices, and control units used in industrial welding automation.

• Implement and tune real-time closed-loop control algorithms (current, voltage, and arc control) for switched-mode power conversion using PWM-based digital controllers.

• Develop low-level drivers and interfaces for power electronics building blocks: gate drive circuitry, power semiconductor switches (IGBT/MOSFET), current/voltage feedback sensing, and thermal protection.

• Work with DSP-based or ARM Cortex-M/STM32 microcontrollers to implement high-speed control loops, ADC sampling, and PWM generation for welding power converters.

• Collaborate with power electronics and hardware design teams on board bring-up, control-loop validation, and system-level integration of welding power sources.

• Develop communication interfaces between weld controllers, power sources, and peripheral devices using CAN, RS-485, Ethernet, and other industrial protocols.

• Support integration with robotic and automated welding cells, ensuring reliable synchronization between weld control units and automation systems.

• Debug and troubleshoot firmware and control-loop issues using oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, JTAG/SWD, and power-quality measurement tools.

• Write and maintain design documentation, test plans, and validation reports for embedded control software in line with industrial/safety standards.

• Participate in code reviews, support automated testing of firmware, and mentor junior engineers on embedded and power-electronics best practices.

Required Skills and Qualifications

• Bachelor or Master degree in Electrical, Electronics, Power Electronics, or related engineering discipline.

• 5 to 7 years of experience in embedded firmware/software development, with meaningful exposure to the

power electronics domain.

• Strong proficiency in C/C++ for embedded, real-time systems.

• Hands-on experience with microcontrollers (ARM Cortex-M, STM32) or DSP controllers used in power conversion applications.

• Solid understanding of switched-mode power supply concepts: PWM control, gate drives, current/voltage

feedback loops, and thermal management.

• Experience with real-time control loop implementation, including PID/closed-loop tuning for current or

voltage regulation.

• Familiarity with communication protocols relevant to industrial equipment: CAN, RS-485, UART, SPI, I2C, Ethernet.

• Experience with embedded development and debugging tools (IAR, Keil, STM32CubeIDE, Code

Composer Studio, debuggers, and emulators).

• Working knowledge of RTOS concepts (e.g., FreeRTOS, ThreadX) and version control systems

(Git/GitLab).

Preferred Qualifications

• Working knowledge of digital signal processing (DSP) techniques for real-time control — filtering,

sampling, and control-loop compensation — is a strong advantage.

• Experience with welding power sources, arc welding processes (MIG/MAG, TIG, Stick), or other industrial

power conversion equipment.

• Exposure to safety-critical or industrial-grade embedded systems and relevant compliance/safety standards.

• Experience integrating embedded control units with robotic or automated welding cells.

• Familiarity with bootloader design, firmware updates, and configuration data management for field devices.

• Scripting skills (Python/Bash) for test automation, data logging, and diagnostics.
