Senior Quality Engineer II

Position Summary:

The Senior Test Engineer is a hands-on quality engineering role supporting the Loyalty Financial Services (LFS) platform across Core, Partners, Platform/Data & Integrations, UI/Admin Portal, and Operations capabilities. The engineer will design and execute risk-based testing, build maintainable automation, validate complex financial and loyalty processing, and provide objective evidence of release readiness.

The role spans functional, API, UI, data, event-driven, integration, near-neighbor, regression, component performance, and production parallel-validation testing. It requires close collaboration with Product, Engineering, Architecture, DevOps, SRE, Security, enterprise testing teams, and upstream/downstream domains. The successful candidate combines strong automation depth with business-process understanding, disciplined test documentation, and end-to-end ownership.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Own the quality-engineering approach for assigned LFS capabilities from backlog refinement through production validation, including test strategy, scope, estimates, risks, entry/exit criteria, traceability, evidence, and sign-off readiness.
  • Partner with Product Owners, Business Analysts, architects, and developers to improve acceptance criteria, identify edge cases, define testable requirements, and embed quality early in design and development.
  • Design, build, and maintain reusable automation for web UI, REST APIs, microservices, batch processes, data pipelines, Kafka/event flows, and database validations using an automation-first approach.
  • Execute functional, integration, near-neighbor, end-to-end, regression, accessibility, negative, boundary, resiliency, and component performance testing appropriate to the capability and release risk.
  • Validate financial and loyalty data across source, processing, persistence, events, APIs, UI, and downstream outputs, including reconciliation, calculation accuracy, status transitions, idempotency, audit history, and exception handling.
  • Support parallel validation by comparing modern LFS outputs with approved legacy or expected results, analyzing variances, documenting evidence, and partnering with Engineering, Product, and Business teams on disposition and sign-off.
  • Create and manage test data that covers positive, negative, boundary, historical, effective-date, role/permission, rejected/resubmitted, duplicate, late-arriving, and error-recovery scenarios while protecting sensitive data.
  • Integrate automated suites into CI/CD pipelines and establish reliable quality gates, execution reporting, failure diagnostics, and regression feedback for sprint and release decisions.
  • Coordinate cross-POD and cross-domain testing dependencies, environment readiness, service availability, test stubs/mocks, defect retesting, and release or dark-launch validation.
  • Lead defect triage and root-cause analysis with clear severity, business impact, reproducible evidence, target resolution, deployment status, and closure verification.
  • Contribute to LFS common testing standards, reusable utilities, metrics, dashboards, documentation, and knowledge transfer; mentor engineers and help raise automation and domain capability across PODs.
  • Participate in Agile ceremonies, technical reviews, demos, release planning, and production-support activities, providing concise and transparent quality status, risks, decisions, and recommendations.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 6+ years of software quality engineering experience, including hands-on test automation for enterprise applications and distributed systems.
  • Strong programming skills in Java and/or JavaScript/TypeScript; working knowledge of Python or SQL-based test utilities is beneficial.
  • Hands-on experience with modern UI automation such as Playwright or Selenium, and API automation using REST Assured, Postman/Newman, ReadyAPI, or equivalent.
  • Strong SQL skills and experience validating data across relational databases such as PostgreSQL, Aurora PostgreSQL, or DB2, including reconciliation of high-volume processing results.
  • Experience testing REST/OpenAPI services, asynchronous or event-driven integrations, Kafka messages, batch/file processing, microservices, and multi-system workflows.
  • Experience creating test frameworks, reusable libraries, mocks/service virtualization, test-data utilities, and actionable execution reports.
  • Experience integrating tests with Git-based development and CI/CD tools such as Jenkins, GitHub Actions, Harness, or equivalent.
  • Working knowledge of performance testing concepts and tools such as JMeter, Gatling, k6, LoadRunner, or equivalent, including analysis against non-functional requirements.
  • Experience with Jira and Confluence for test planning, test evidence, defect management, traceability, and status reporting.
  • Strong analytical, debugging, communication, and collaboration skills in Agile/Scrum delivery across distributed teams and time zones.
  • Ability to understand complex business rules and translate them into risk-based scenarios, automated checks, and clear release-readiness recommendations.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in loyalty, hospitality, travel, e-commerce, billing, reimbursement, financial processing, accounting interfaces, or controls-oriented platforms.
  • Experience testing cloud-native systems on AWS, containerized workloads using Docker/Kubernetes, and observability platforms such as Splunk, Dynatrace, Grafana, or CloudWatch.
  • Experience with contract/schema testing, consumer-driven contracts, Avro/Schema Registry, CDC/data-pipeline testing, and data-quality validation.
  • Experience with accessibility testing and WCAG-aligned validation for enterprise web applications.
  • Understanding of secure testing, authentication/authorization, role-based access, auditability, privacy, and SOX/ITGC-sensitive application controls.
  • Exposure to AI-assisted engineering tools such as GitHub Copilot or Cursor, with disciplined review of generated automation code and test assets.
  • Experience guiding other SDETs, conducting automation code reviews, and establishing shared quality-engineering practices across multiple teams.
  • LFS Testing Scope Across PODs
