How You’ll Succeed (responsibilities):

DevOps Strategy and Roadmap:

  • Develop and communicate the strategic roadmap for DevOps practices, tooling, and enablement to support enterprise technology objectives.
  • Align DevOps architecture direction with Enterprise Architecture standards, roadmaps, and enterprise-wide strategy to ensure consistency and scalability.
  • Lead enterprise DevOps transformation by promoting cultural, process, and technology changes that improve software delivery effectiveness.
  • Identify opportunities to simplify, standardize, and modernize the software delivery lifecycle through enterprise tooling and reusable design patterns.
  • Architecture and Solution Design
  • Make architectural decisions that streamline and optimize the enterprise software delivery toolchain and its integrations.
  • Design and implement scalable CI/CD frameworks using GitHub Actions and related technologies to improve deployment consistency, efficiency, and control.
  • Define reusable architectural patterns, workflows, and automation standards that support broad adoption across technology teams.
  • Guide the design of custom actions, scripts, and integration approaches to meet enterprise and team-specific delivery requirements.


Toolchain Governance and Administration:

  • Oversee the strategic administration and integration approach for key platforms including GitHub, JFrog Artifactory, and SonarQube.
  • Ensure enterprise tooling is effectively embedded into the development lifecycle and aligned to engineering, operational, and governance requirements.
  • Support the evolution of toolchain capabilities by evaluating platform needs, integration patterns, and improvement opportunities.
  • Establish standards and recommendations for secure, scalable, and efficient platform usage across development and operations teams.
  • Compliance, Risk, and Audit Enablement
  • Develop and implement strategies to support compliance with internal and external audit requirements related to access management, controls, and sensitive information handling.
  • Ensure architectural designs and toolchain practices align with applicable governance, security, and control expectations.
  • Recommend and support solutions that improve traceability, policy adherence, and secure software delivery practices across the enterprise.
  • Partner with stakeholders to strengthen controls within DevOps processes while maintaining efficient developer experience.
  • Mentorship, Advisory, and Cross-Functional Leadership
  • Mentor and guide DevOps engineers and partner teams by sharing knowledge, promoting best practices, and supporting technical growth.
  • Provide senior advisory support to application development, quality assurance, operations, infrastructure, and business teams on DevOps architecture and toolchain adoption.
  • Collaborate with team leads across technology groups to deliver high-quality, scalable, and practical engineering solutions.
  • Foster a collaborative and innovative environment that encourages experimentation, continuous learning, and shared ownership of outcomes.


Innovation and Continuous Improvement:

  • Challenge existing delivery approaches and identify opportunities to improve deployment processes, engineering productivity, and operational reliability.
  • Advance production monitoring, infrastructure automation, and platform engineering capabilities through strategic design and experimentation.
  • Evaluate emerging practices and technologies to improve the enterprise DevOps ecosystem and future-state architecture.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives that enhance the onboarding and lifecycle experience for internal technology teams.


People Management:

  • Manage a team of software engineers & professionals to achieve delivery needs
  • Manage performance by providing fair and accurate formal and informal feedback, identifying and removing obstacles to performance and by explaining how performance expectations align with business priorities.
  • Create a positive work environment and be an effective role model by championing CIBC’s mission, vision, and values.
  • Hire and retain the right people in the right jobs to align individual capabilities with job requirements and business unit goals
  • Set appropriate context when assigning work to ensure that individuals’ roles support the achievement of the business unit’s priorities and CIBC’s overall goals.
  • Build team and individual capabilities by providing development opportunities such as job shadowing, special projects, and training.


CROSS-FUNCTIONAL RELATIONSHIPS:

  • Stakeholder partnership & coaching: Work closely with application teams, platform partners, and business colleagues to align on PIV goals, unblock delivery issues
  • Collaborates with solution architects and senior developers on design and technology standards.
  • Interfaces with production support teams to ensure operational readiness and issue resolution.
  • Works closely with business analysts to gather and clarify requirements.

Experience: 10+ years of experience

Who You Are (skills/qualifications):

Post-secondary education in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.


Must Have Skills:

  • 10+ years of experience in DevOps platform architecture, software design, or related roles with strong focus on strategic planning and architectural design.
  • 3+ years of experience in leading and managing a high performance team with deliverables accountability
  • Deep knowledge of enterprise DevOps practices, software delivery lifecycle design, and CI/CD architecture.
  • Strong experience leading administration and strategic integration of GitHub Enterprise, JFrog Artifactory, and SonarQube.
  • Advanced experience designing and implementing CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions and reusable workflow patterns.
  • Experience designing scalable solutions for containerized and cloud-native environments.
  • Strong scripting and automation skills using Python and/or shell scripting such as Bash or PowerShell.
  • Proven ability to make sound architectural decisions that improve scalability, reliability, governance, and developer experience.
  • Strong mentoring and technical leadership capability, with experience guiding engineers and fostering collaborative team environments.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with ability to influence senior leaders and cross-functional partners.
  • Proven solution development experience with strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail and ability to translate complex requirements into practical architectural solutions.
  • Experience with GitHub Advanced Security.
  • Experience with Ansible, Docker, Helm, OpenShift, AKS, and broader Kubernetes ecosystem tooling.
  • Experience with system administration and platform engineering practices in enterprise environments.
  • Experience building strategic roadmaps and target-state architectures in partnership with enterprise architecture functions.
